Dover South Elementary
Welcome to Dover South Elementary
South is one of three elementary buildings in the Dover City School District. We serve children from preschool through fifth grade. We have a committed and dedicated group of teachers and support staff that strives to provide engaging instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
There are a variety of programs and activities provided for our children. We provide after school intervention and enrichment for students in grades one through five. Our students also have the opportunity to participate in many activities including Taking It to the Schools, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, student council, choir and many more. Our Student Council, under the direction of Mrs. Boughner and Mrs. Maxwell, plans many community projects and spirit days for our students. We have many fifth grade students that participate in our band and orchestra programs. They also compete in the county math tournament. Our fourth grade students participate each year in the Young Authors conference.
At South School, we also strive to teach our students about the importance of giving back to the community. Our students participate in many service projects throughout the year. These projects include; Relay for Life, Salvation Army "Coins for Kids", "Coats for Kids", and "Coins for the Ukraine."
The use of technology to enhance learning is also a strength at South Elementary. Through teacher-written grants, students have the opportunity to engage in interactive learning through the use of Smart Boards, iPads and Distance Learning.
Our PTG is an organized group of volunteer parents who work hard throughout the year to provide activities and assemblies to supplement the learning of all our students. We will continue to make improvements to our playground areas. Through the efforts of our playground committee, we were able to replace our swings for the safety and enjoyment of our students. We also held our first annual, 5K "Recess Run." This event was a huge success and we were able to add 3 new pieces of equipment to the playground. We encourage everyone to get involved in "South School's Dream."
South School is a positive, inviting place to learn and grow. One visit to South Elementary and you quickly see that our children and their needs are our first priority.
